Grandma's Home Cooking
Grandma's Home Cooking is dedicated to the long lost recipes of Grandma's favorites and some new variations.  I was born Julie Ann Chrismon in a little town called Burlington in North Carolina.  The wonderful thing about this area is you have the beaches on one side of you and the majestic mountains on the other side.  Great food is everywhere.  I can still remember the times when after Sunday church service we would often travel to visit Grandma.  It was there where my family would gather for a delicious spread of foods that Grandma had prepared so carefully for all to enjoy.  She was a petite little lady but her talents and abilities were grand.  She rarely used recipes, so the use of a teaspoon, tablespoon or a measuring cup to stir up her favorite dishes didn't happen very often.  But most of all, I remember the Christmas holidays at my Grandma's house.  She would start days, even weeks before in preparing the foods.  She would make the most delicious cakes and put them in tin cans for storage.  She would wrap them so carefully and place them in a chest in her bedroom to stay cool.  The one I remember the most was a cake she called an "Allspice Cake".  Believe it or not, but it was very similar to the cake that has received so much ridicule over the years, "the fruitcake".  After my grandmother passed away, my mother would prepare the cake each holiday.  It actually was very good because it was very moist, loaded with nuts and cherries, and it wasn't as hard as a brick.  My thoughts for this website originated from my love of cooking and as I've gotten older, my observation of the various types of foods tha we have here in the U.S.  As I've spent alot of time visiting the North and living in a small North Carolina town, I am amazed at the different types of families that are in America and their ways of preparing dishes.  I would love to share some of them with you.  So let's give a special tribute to all grandmas, grandmothers, nannas, grannys, whatever the name of that "special" person for all the love that have shown throughout the years in preparing such wonderful meals.
